Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon
Dr Lee Haw Chou is an orthopaedic surgeon with 10 years experience in the field. He provides specialised care in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal diseases at his clinic at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1993), he completed basic surgical training in Surgery with an FRCS Edinburgh in 1998. He then went into Orthopaedic advance surgical training in 2000 and exited as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery, Edinburgh in 2003. He took up several short term fellowships in Spine Surgery in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the UK and also underwent a 12-month stint at the University of Missouri, USA, where he worked with various masters of Spine Surgery.
Before establishing his private practice, Dr Lee was a senior consultant at the Orthopaedic Department at Changi General Hospital. During his tenure, he championed the Orthopaedic Geriatric Programme and was the Director of the Osteoporosis Programme (OPTIMAL), which does preventive counseling, treatment and lifestyle advice for the elderly. He also served as the Chief of the Spine Service, which he was instrumental in setting up in 2009. Additionally, he oversaw the training of junior spine surgeons and established a comprehensive patient care programme where patients are led through the surgical process and its recovery with a multi-disciplinary team of nurses and physiotherapist.
Besides his dedication to achieving the best for his patients, Dr Lee is also passionate about improving healthcare processes. Over the years, he has secured several grants from the Ministry of Health’s Healthcare Quality Improvement Fund. He also spearheaded process improvements throughout Changi General Hospital with respect to clinical infection and thromboprophylaxis. In recognition of his efforts towards quality improvement, he has won numerous quality improvement awards from the Health Ministry and was thrice a recipient of the Singhealth Service Quality Award.
Dr Lee has special interest in spinal condition affecting the neck and back. He is trained in minimally invasive procedures and deformity correction.
